Amélie shook her head, responding to the inquiries as able.

"Non, and I do not believe any of your meals should upset me, so long as they are not overly processed. Wutsesche, and by extension now Perleninsel, try to go for more natural foods. As we are able, anyhow. Hopefully within the coming years we can help increase the amount of health foods available throughout Cynosure."

The princess immediately returned to her thoughts, trying to understand Ukari's silence. Vivienne had alerted her that something was up, though the bat-like attendant was unclear as to the full extent of the matter. Perhaps Amélie had somehow offended the Scandzic Monarch? This was very possible, however the exact cause escaped her. It could've been as simple as some error in translation from either end, or Amélie not follow proper procedure. These options were hopefully easy to mind, as Scandzic traditions did allow for certain mistakes given how wide spread the old Scandza empire had been. However, these were the easy ones, and her advisors would 'laugh at her naivety.' Many of them were reluctant to fully trust any exterior nation, given Perleninsel's size and remote nature. It would take quite some time for a friendly force to come to their aide, if any force were going to show up at all. Ultimately the scattered Scandzic nations would have to reunite before the end of things, and the primary threats to Perleninsel were ironically Amélie's closest perceived allies; Wustesche and Ukarist. It was doubtful that Sverinovo would be able to must the numbers needed to pull off a reunification, and the Reisende were barely holding out against the socialists to their south. Perleninsel would be an ideal land to start the new Scandza Empire, and this had made almost all of her staff exceptionally wary of working with either their homeland or the Ukaristi. Vivienne thankfully shared Amélie's belief that close ties with their fellow Scandzic's would benefit them all in the long run, and without her support it was very possible that the Princess would've turned to another nation for business.

While the Princess mused, Vivienne quickly shifted into action, not wanting her mistress' mood to reflect poorly upon their nation. She full understood that Amélie meant nothing ill by it, but many matters weighed heavily on her monarch's mind. Shifting her head towards Segeberg, her ears twitching as she spoke.

"I am very impressed with the organization within this region of the north. Are most cities like Kiel, or is it's presence as a manufacturing center require more efficiency than normal?"

Segeberg transmitted a message to her home to inform them with regards to the meal matter. She was good enough that it wasn't too obvious whenever she did that, with her apparent attention appearing to still be focused on the physical world at hand.

Vivienne's question was interesting, however.

"Kiel itself is actually just more of a home for our ships: where they come for repairs, for refits, and for launching. It is, of course, connected to the bigger city, and state capital, Hamburg, via the Kiel Canal. That would be the manufacturing epicentre of this state, and likely the most important in Südukarist - South Ukarist.

Our Kaiserin has not yet had the benefit of a long reign over the Imperial Federation as of yet, being fairly young, and only having brought some of the states under her banner more recently. But the states such as our Schleswig-Holstein historically pursued a model of single large manufacturing centres by way of efficiency, and this trend is very likely to continue throughout our Kaiserin's agenda. Her own state of Norgewegen, in the North of Ukarist, has had the pleasure of her longer presence, and it is evident now that her work there has seriously improved the productivity and state of the land.

I for one hope and believe that this 'Ukari effect' will indeed take a greater root here too, although conservative opinions of our own semi-autonomy are preventing us from thrusting forward as some of the more embracing states have managed..."

It was probably clear to the listeners that the Graf (masculine/feminine titles are interchangeable, usually in favour of the masculine cognate, in Schleswiger-Holsteiner Wusteschen) von Segeberg was quite definitely under the spell of the Queen Valkyrjan, even if the state government as suggested had not given in 'fully enough' to Ukarist.

There was a great deal of reliable evidence in favour of the Kaiserin's regime, but Nobles such as herself were particularly fanatic in their support of the monarchy.

Vivienne nodded, taking the information in.

"Perhaps our business can help sway them? To my understanding, profits can help convince even the most staunch conservatives. One of the advantages, or weaknesses, of the capitalistic models. Regardless, time will eventually turn them. If Ukari brings this much efficiency, then her way will be the one left standing in the end of things. La réunification cannot be stopped after all.

Perleninsel is not fortunate enough to harbor enough space to have it's dockyards and shipyards in separate locations, though I believe that Fleur d'Orient and Étoile Occidentale are able to keep their districts managed well enough. Perhaps we could visit Hamburg at some point during my Mistress' visit? Beyond just observing the organization of the city, I am curious about the history of this region. It is a hobby of mine, one that is difficult to indulge within Perleninsel."

The Chauvesouris gave Segenerg a small smile, the bat-like being's frame rather emotive. Her wings seemed very relaxed, lazily draped around her own body. Vivienne's ears continued to twitch steadily, reacting to each new sound that reached them. Outside of these appendages, her body was rigid, akin to a statue. Given the pallor of her skin, it was difficult to tell whether or not she was well, though her mood would seem to indicate that her current state was natural to her kind. Her accent when spoken was almost non-existent, exhibiting itself only when she spoke words not native to local language.

Segeberg had no doubt that in time her home state too would fully integrate with the Nordunion. Those of her position, able to look down upon, but also understand society and it's intricacies, could see the next great wave of progress brewing from below. Those born in the last 19 years had been born through vats, helping to further the excellence of Ukaristi health, but also allowing for a great deal of cybernetic augmentation and special education before they were released into the greater society. It seemed their allegiances lay with Ukari, and for what specific reason was uncertain, but signs pointed to that time away from the eyes of not only the world, but the rest of Ukarist too.
Concerning?
No. It would crush the conservatives, but bring Ukari's supporters what they wanted; a gloriously efficient and productive Ukaristi state, free of the divisions and administrative inefficiencies that plague it today.
The Baltßcandzic dream was not so far off.

As for what Vivienne meant by "La Réunfication"... Segeberg took a note, for later consideration.

"Hamburg... is not particularly historic anymore. It had been built upon as an existing port town, initially, to become a place for factories. But the urban sprawl was becoming uncontrolled until in 22... the late 2200s, we simply began knocking it over and rebuilding. By 2300 this project had been completed, and Hamburg is now an efficient city - tall, well distributed, and very well linked up with all infrastructure types.
The city, whilst nice in an obsessively-designed fashion, no longer cares for its own heritage nor really its own image... rather that it produce as many goods as possible whilst maximising all variables.
No doubt there are more interesting cities in our diverse Empire.

You may find Ukaristi states tend to concentrate functions into single areas. Hamburg was due South of Kiel, and we are travelling South-West of Kiel. If you were to go North from Segeberg, back up to the coastline, you'd find what I suppose is our 'historic coast'.
The Naval history museum is up there too, which I'm sure you've heard of..."

Renata was secretly ashamed that she could not feel pride in Ukarist properly. Her state had not fully joined, so did that leave her as a member of a satellite?
She didn't feel like a Schleswiger-Holsteiner. She followed the Kaiserin, not her state's pathetic democracy.

Vivienne clicked to herself, nodding in response to Segeberg.

"I have heard of the museum, and I believe both my Mistress and myself would be very interested in visiting it. Still, I am certain there are sights to see here, non?"

Vivienne was somewhat disappointed with the answer, but understood their mentality. The Wustesche in generally were equally as pragmatic, tearing down the old as needed in the name of progress. The environment there did not lead to enduring citadels and historical districts either, as both the climate and conflict within the Aeternum's past clearing the way for the new time and time again. It was, concerning, in some regards, as she wondered if that meant all that ever had been would be eventually forgotten. Wustesche did an acceptably good job with maintaining their historical records, but if they were to cease to exist it was unlikely their history would be properly remembered. She did not want Perleninsel to follow a similar path, given how close the nation existed to the edge of destruction. While the land itself was tame, they were surrounded by far more powerful nations. It made keeping their history all that more important.

Clearing her mind of the thoughts, Vivienne reset her focus onto Segeberg. Still wanting to know what this Ukaristi particularly enjoyed about her homeland, the bat-like being waited patiently.

Renata undid her jacket, and took out her left arm, on which she wore a sleek, holographic variant of a wrist computer. She then temporarily returned her attention directly to the conversation, as she booted the device up remotely.

"Well, this state isn't known for many great contributions to the wider world. Obviously, we kept the maritime industry as a sort of reminder..."

Her left eye was beginning to take on a noticeably golden colour, as she prepared her own side of the interface with her wrist device. Her own optical cybernetic array (OS-L48) was similar to that of the Kaiserin's old (pre-knowledge of being a Valkyrjan) cybernetics (her optical part was an OS-L5), which had certainly 'caught the eye' of the media of the world, adding more to her status as an unusual beauty.
That line of optical enhancement had not been abandoned, despite the problems, and the fact that a similar enhancement was possible without the colouration changing. It was slightly more functional, but really the OS-L series was nowadays little more than a fashion statement - both expensive but very highly thought-of - thanks to the world's amazement over Ukari and her old OS-L5.

"...and the maritime museum was enlarged since our joining with the Imperial Federated Union. Other than that, our pre-1900 history has not fared well in this state, hamstrung by previous financial greivances and an economic focus such sites have long fallen after years of disrepair..."

The wrist computer projected a long string of scrolling, disorganised information then - mirroring what Segeberg was now receiving from the Ukaristi information intranet - and moving too fast to be legible. Ukarist was very well connected by these networks, and with most new electronic devices containing some form of connection booster, a strong connection was not hard to find.
Segeberg's particularly high-end wrist device had an ample internal connection booster, so at this point Renata was drawing the information through it, rather than directly into her own implanted devices.

"...That is not to say that history has completely disappeared.
There are archives with our old documents in Norge, local sites still exist, and as Ukarist has an internal free movement system, there are a long list of places of historical significance that are accessible to us, or indeed visitors like yourselves..."

The hologram then froze, with Renata giving a small satisfied smile, before it's projection changed to that of a list of locations.

"There. Perhaps we can take a look at some of these historical locations and sites of interest, local and wider, before we reach that meal..."

Vivienne nodded, looking to her mistress who was still deep in thought. Extending a wing over to poke Amélie lightly, the princess shifted her attention back to the conversation.

"Mistress, I believe that we have time to visit some of the local sights, non?"

Considering the option, she thought it was a good idea. She'd be able to learn more about Ukarist in general, as well as people watch a bit. Though now a monarch, Amélie had no intention of giving up her passion for art and fashion. Learning more about their sense of style could help her start up a new clothing line, or blend their taste's with those of Perleninsel. However, as much as she wanted to partake in this, a concern was left nagging Amélie's mind.

"I would find that acceptable, although I don't want to worry or upset the Monarch by being late or absent to our meal."

Her voice shared genuine concern over how Ukari would perceive their actions, though her face was more stoic. Amélie looked to Segeberg, figuring that as a native to this land she would have the best understanding of the Valkyrie Queen.

Segeberg frowned for a moment, somewhat confused as she processed the reply.
But then she suddenly smiled, her eye still shining gold.

"Aha, you cannot see this, no."

She held up her arm for a moment, indicating to where the hologram would appear to her.

"This is a personal mobile computing device, emitting a hologram to those of us who see with the aid of this -"

Segeberg signalled to her glowing left eye.

"- A cybernetically-enhanced eye. You may have seen pictures of the Kaiserin with hers glowing like this...

But I digress. There is not a long way left to Segeberg, where I suggest we may take some time in for the time before our scheduled meal. That way, we not only eliminate the potential idleness within my home itself, but also allowing for some recuperation from this drive and your sea journey today.
I imagine you must be beginning to feel some fatigue, no?"

Segeberg herself was pretty fit, and physically unfatigued at all, if not becoming somewhat mentally weary from acting in the manner of diplomacy she was not accustomed to.

Vivienne looked thoroughly confused at Segeberg's description, primarily due to her lack of vision. Her ears flicked, and she remained silent. Amélie found it far more interesting, however, primarily due to the stigma against cynbernetic implants back in the Aeternum. However, due to the stigma she was raise around the Princess did not comment on the matter, lest rumors spread.

"Well, I suppose it couldn't hurt. The tides were a little rough coming in. If you're certain The Monarch will not be bothered by this, then I would very much like to see this land."

Amélie gave a small smile, glad that they would be able to do some sight seeing this early on.

Segeberg was not too much further.
Size-wise, it could be classed as a large town or small city; but the buildings were not particularly high-rise, leading to the fore being the impression by appearance.
The town, therefore, was another reflection of the Schleswiger-Holsteiner trends in regards to modernisation, in that the majority of the town was very much up-to-date with technology. The layout of the town centre had been totally re-designed just 53 years ago, into a far more efficient grid intersected by rings - the outermost of which featured tram lines.

Only limited interest was taken in the arrival of the small number of dock-guard vehicles. People simply had more important matters to tend to than staring. Here even shopping or eating could be practiced in 'the proper Schleswiger manner'; in and out without fuss.

"Welcome to Segeberg.
We have 43 minutes to look around before we should travel to the venue of your meal..."

Stepping out of the vehicle, Renata was already in the process of organising the next transport. Her left eye would likely remain a golden hue for the rest of the day at this rate.

"This town centre has just 3 'rings', with this being the outermost, and our equivalent of a high street..."

In total, the number of physical store-fronts had reduced greatly in the past 350 years with the advent of the likes of online shopping. Most states of Ukarist had ensured the continuation of the high street through intelligent redesign and manipulation of consumer trends, so what is found there today is local produces, small delicatessens (selling local traditional foods), and most prominently the fashion industry (the male side of which was declining with the declining male populace).

"The 2nd ring has in this case a large number of cafés and restaurants, which is common for this layout model.
Finally, the inner ring is more of a circle, featuring the town square, a small museum, and a few council buildings.

But now, please feel free to look around as you please, and I will accompany you and answer any questions you may have..."
