There is a slight pause at the request for green tea before the Advocate nods once. "Green tea. A drink made from an infusion of cured plant leaves. Such a thing is possible. It is being prepared."

In a gesture looking entirely natural, the Advocate shakes the offered hand, its grip firm and its touch as warm as any human. "You were free to bring whoever you wished. The Nexus always takes into consideration the culture and protocols of its potential Clients. This will be your Gate and, on the other side, your Enclave, so carrying of any equipment, weapons or otherwise, is within your rights. Dependant on the scale of the weapons involved, they are also permitted in public areas of the Nexus.

"To properly establish our own protocol, are you of sufficient authority with your people to negotiate your status as a Client, or are you beholden to others?"

"I am the highest ranking person in the entire armed forces of Piethrixia, I have control of pretty much everything... Speaking of armed forces, this thing doesn't look so militarised to me."
The Admiral looks around the Airlock. He then removes his Handgun and hands it to the Security officer standing to his right. they whisper into their ear "won't need this, could probably beat them if I had to." They then turn back to face the advocate smiling. Now, where do we go?

"Vessels of the Owners are not militarised," the Advocate replied. "We do not engage in conflict with Clients, potential or otherwise, and do not get involved in conflicts between Clients. If matters arise that required application of force, then other methods have been deemed suitable to resolve it; this usually takes the place of a simple embargo of the Gate itself, withdrawing access to the Nexus, but in cases where the situation is more critical, redirection of stellar interiors is a typical response."

The Advocate gestures towards an area of the craft where seats and other surfaces rise from the formerly featureless floor. "If you would like to sit, I will take this vessel into the Nexus and you may see what we are offering. Do you wish to observe our passage as we travel? Some Clients appreciate viewing the entire voyage, others find it disorientating or causing discomfort."

"would be nice to see what your Nexus thing is like. Hopefully, it isn't as bland as space when going at warp speeds."
The Admiral takes out his communication device and presses a button. "Daniels to Retribution, Undock and move back towards the Enterprise. Disable Cannon groups 10 Through 15 on the moon base." he then places the communication device in his pocket and moves to sit in a chair.

PAFLB 1 | Luna Control 1
"Disable Cannons 10-0 to 15-10, Decloak" The base commander walks into his office. and sits at his desk.

PAFLC 10-0 | Luna Cannon 10-0

Out of nowhere, a massive cannon pointed at the gate and the envoy's vessel appears. then dozens of other gigantic cannons appear. All of them charged, and ready to fire their massive shells at almost FTL speeds. Their Barrels lowering and rotating to come to rest on top of massive braces to keep their mechanical parts from becoming too fatigued.

"PAFLC 10-0 control to Luna Control, Weapon system offline."

PAFLB 1 | Luna Control 1

"Luna Control 1 to Admiral Daniels, Cannons Offline. ready to charge and fire on your command."

If the Advocate was surprised at the appearance of cloaked weapons, it did not show it, instead it moved to sit on one of the seats near the Admiral. "Passage through the Gate is not like forms of superluminal travel, and within the Nexus itself, such speeds are restricted to emergency use by Owner vessels only. We have colonised only one million kilometres of the Nexus, so speeds greater than the limits imposed are not necessary. Once you are inducted as a full Client, your vessels will have equal access rights to the transport corridors of the Nexus."

As the members of the delegation took their seats, or at least moved into the seating area, two things happened. The first was that on a table-like surface some glasses full of what looked and smelled almost identical to green tea appeared, their contents gently steaming. Secondly, the view of the inside of the craft was replaced with a semi-dome view of outside; the nearby Piethrixian vessels, the world below and the distant Gate all visible.

With no hint of movement, this view began to shift, the acceleration sudden, but undetectable inside the Envoy ship. The Piethrixian craft were quickly left behind as the Gate grew closer and closer before it filled the view ahead until, with not even a sense of transition, they were through. With the passage through came a deceleration as rapid and unfeeling as the acceleration earlier. The Gate was now an inky black circle behind them, studded with stars and the distance circle of the Piethrixian world. Instead of space, now the view was of a long cylindrical passageway, stretching off in both directions as far as the eye could see. A bright line of white was above, coming from some place beyond the vanishing point in one direction, to disappear similarly in the other. All around, the walls of the cylinder were either a pale matte bronze colour, or dotted with pinpricks of light and lines of moving colour. Nearby was another vessel identical to the one the delegation was on and, across the Nexus on the far side, was a cylinder-shaped craft emerging from a Gate. Distance made sizes hard to gauge, but if the Gate on the far side was a large as the one passed through, then the craft was almost a kilometre in diameter and several kilometres long.

"Welcome to the Nexus," the Advocate said. "This section of the Nexus is relatively new, with few Gates to Client universes but quite a few to uninhabited universes allocated for both Client resource extraction and Owner custodianship. When your Client status is formally granted, we will allocate the five kilometres around this Gate as your own Enclave, over which you have total control. Upon request, we can coat the surface of the Nexus with a material of choice and fill the space around it with an atmosphere, enabling colonisation. Most Clients take this choice, as it provides a firm centre with which to engage in Nexus activities.

"Unless you have further questions on this location, we shall now travel to Hub, the centre of Owner-controlled Nexus, where you can visit the Nexus Council chambers and be formally offered your Client position."

The admiral stares out of the ship and down the Nexus. He slowly takes a sip of the tea. "When did your people build this? this is beyond our technology. Something of this size should be destroying itself with its own gravity." The Admiral takes another sip of his tea and stares out into the nexus.

The Advocate paused before answering. "We did not build the Nexus," it said. "Our earliest records, from around eighteen thousand years ago, indicate that we already occupied the Nexus then and had done for some time. Who the original builders were, we cannot say. Speculation is not productive, so we have abstained from doing so.

"Thankfully, not being aware of our origins does not equate to not being in control. The Nexus is not a construction like a tunnel, but a universe in of itself. Gravity does not function as it does in standard universes and is difficult to describe in simple language forms. It is best to say that we have total control of gravity within the Nexus."

"Oh my, that is very interesting. Would you mind some piethrixian scientists taking a look at the makeup of the walls of the nexus sometime?" He looks back out at the nexus. "It's a marvellous thing and we might even be able to see how old it is."

The Advocate smiles. "You will be free to examine the Nexus walls all you wish; you will not be the first. There is a significant body of scientific literature regarding the nature of the Nexus itself and as Clients you will have full and open access to said information. Our own research indicates that the Nexus is merely a manifestation of space-time, a place that exists due to previous events. What those events were, or how they were instigated, is beyond us."

The Envoy craft accelerated once more, rising up above the surface of the Nexus towards the centre. "Client vessels within the Nexus, such as those you will be using, are limited to designated transit corridors and assigned speed limits. As a vessel of the Owners, special dispensations are given. For our passage to Hub, we can either travel at typical speed, and arrive at our destination within minutes, or I can instruct the vessel to move at a speed that will allow a better visual of our passage, although the time to our destination will be increased. The choice is your own."

"I think I have stared out of the nexus for enough time, ill take the faster route." He sips his drink again. noticing that it is cooler than before, he drinks the rest of it, putting the empty cup down.
